The New French Wine

Sometimes you have to choose to illustrate something that you have never illustrated. When Jon Bonné called me to ask me to draw maps my first thought was: I've never done this and therefore I don't know how to do it. Then as the days went by (and thanks to Jon's friendly insistence) I went from "I can't do it" to "maybe I could do it my way." In short, I decided to throw myself into a project that was a bit of an anomaly with respect to my work, but because of that very challenging. The New French Wine is a journey through all the wine regions of France, featuring some 800 producers and more than 7,000 wines.
Packaged in a luxury slipcase and built on eight years of research, The New French Wine is a unique book that explores the world's most famous wine region. First, it examines the terroir through a comprehensive narrative overview of each region: the soil and geography, distinctive traditions, and contemporary changes. Then it moves on to the second book, which is a comprehensive guide to producers and their wines, also detailed by region. Following are the illustrated maps I made for the volume. I would like to thank Jon for his unconditional trust and all the staff at Ten Speed Press for their eagerness and helpfulness.
