In the midst of a global pandemic, online wholesale retailer Boxed decided to refresh its private label, Prince & Spring. The label's mantra, "Quality, value, and playfulness that brighten up the everyday," would be their guiding principle. Gone were the minimalist designs, full of white space and sophisticated grey accents. Instead, labels and boxes were to be drenched in color and brought to life with illustrations, textures, and eye-catching photography, ready to convey the fun and whimsy of household essentials. Key product information would be centered on large blocks of color, making it easier for shoppers to identify Prince & Spring in a sea of national brands while scrolling at high-speed.
The new designs were met with much excitement by customers, employees, and vendors alike. Sadly, the rollout of redesigned packaging would come to an abrupt end. In April of 2023, due to financial misfortune, Boxed was forced to shut down its retail operations. Below is a selection of refreshed packaging that I had the pleasure of working on while a part of the Prince & Spring team.
