Rixos Premium Saadiyat Island / Abu Dhabi, UAE
Situated on the pristine white sands of Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi, this resort stands out as the first all-inclusive concept in Abu Dhabi and one of the most successful fully integrated resorts in the U.A.E. Considering architectural concerns, the client opted for uplighting as the preferred lighting option. However, to mitigate light spillage, I employed specific optics and maintained minimum light levels to effectively bounce light back from the horizontal architectural elements, such as fringes, while ensuring the night sky remained dark.
The design approach focused on achieving a very low level of illumination, especially on the beach-facing facade, to minimize any potential disturbance. Conversely, a brighter and more inviting lighting scheme was desired for the entrance area. To create a seamless transition between the brighter and dimmed facades, I selected repeating architectural patterns, which contributed to a cohesive and continuous visual experience throughout the resort.
