This project is an exercise in hollow construction, a technique in jewelry making that takes skill and patience.  It was also an introduction into tube setting, another jewelry technique which requires skill and patience to learn.  I used lemon quartz in the tube setting, to mimic the color of the spadix in natural calla lily.  The container for the ring was forged from 18 guage copper sheet and I used a heat patina to achieve the range of colors.  Liver of sulfur oxidized the funnel to the rich black color it is to contrast with the soft white of the silver ring.
