In Jamaica the cutlass, machete, or 'Choppa' is traditionally associated with farming, gardening, landscaping, and butchering. Feared by praedial larcenists and livestock alike, it is primarily used to chop grass, bush, and stick, but sometimes unfortunately, humans.

The term choppa was also associated with a person who sold ganja/weed. However, it has evolved into something different from its original meaning. Nowadays a 'choppa' in Jamaican terms is a scammer. The banger phone has now become the proverbial machete used to "chop eh line".
