Chinese Zodiacs Door Handle

Chinese Zodiac Door Handle
A door handle designed based on personal values surrounding 'home & culture'.

A fundamental value in Chinese culture is family, hence this piece represents my three siblings and myself. The portrayal of my siblings is through their Chinese zodiac animal, assigned based on one’s birth year.  Each circular layer belongs to one sibling and the patterns are influences by their animal’s characteristics. The order is the rabbit (elegance and moon), dragon (imperial and controller of water), horse (steady and strong) and monkey (mischievous and witty) - placed from oldest to youngest resembling the oldest as our foundation holding us together, allowing the younger ones to step out. The circular shape itself is symbolic of unity and togetherness, qualities of a family.

Made from hard-density foam and a combination of hand-etched and machine made engravings.
