After experimenting using found materials with my nephews aged 5-11, I gained inspiration from how they interacted with a road sign. They played with the materials with no fear, building a chair back with the exact same sign I have used within my sculpture. The underneath has been spray painted to create a visual contrast between new andold.
Created using a found sign on Leeds Canal and a table found in a skip in Hyde Park. The table top has been left with a pen, encouraging the viewer to interact with the sign, adding to it how they desire. Children have no right or wrong when they drawer, similar to graffiti. Everyone can drawer and beauty can be found within imperfection. Graffiti, although controversial can help bring life back into the neglected.
