Facing the Unknown: Artistic Portraits of Students' Struggle for the Future is a student project regarding my BA in Digital Design @Vakalo Art & Design College.
Facing the Unknown: Artistic Portraits of Students' Struggle for the Future" is a captivating art project that draws inspiration from the renowned artist Marlene Dumas and her distinct approach to portraiture. By employing photographs taken of my classmates, I sought to capture the essence of their individual journeys and the complex emotions intertwined with the pursuit of higher education. Each portrait serves as a visual narrative, inviting viewers to reflect upon the unique challenges encountered during this transformative phase of life. Through the use of Dumas' expressive style, I aim to convey the intensity and vulnerability of the human experience, shedding light on the profound impact that these internal battles can have on young individuals striving to shape their destinies.
As students, we often find ourselves feeling anxious, scared and exhausted at university. Thinking about the future and whether we will find work causes us anxiety. We face a multitude of expectations and fears that accompany our career choices. Fatigue affects our mental and physical well-being as we pursue our goals. Through art, we try to capture these feelings and explore the complexities of student life. This work is a narrative of the anguish, fear and exhaustion we experience as we face the unknown of the future.
