The Summer I Turned Pretty - Concept Key Art

Concept Key Art Project
The Summer I Turned Pretty

A while back when an opportunity presented itself, I wanted to challenge myself to see what kind of work I could come up with if I were the key art designer for some of my favorite shows. Being my most recent binge when I did was working on this project, I couldn't help but create some key art for one of my all-time favorite book series screen adaptations.

Thumbnail Design - Concept One

For this set of designs, I was inspired by the book covers of the trilogy. *SERIES SPOILERS AHEAD* Each design is reflective of a book in color and image choice; the teal one represents book one, where Belly is going through a lot of her firsts, and the main focus is on her. Meanwhile, book two shows a lot of her and Jeremiah as seen in coral. Lastly, the purple one is for when Belly and Conrad becoming endgame in book three.

In addition, I also wanted to create a set inspired by the three love interests from the first season of the show, Jeremiah and Conrad Fisher, as well as Cam Cameron, but I wanted to keep the designs simple, so I went ahead and removed the backgrounds on the fisher boy's ones and found one that was better suited for the dimensions. Meanwhile, I just added a texture and more dimension to the bike riding image for the Cam Cameron one.
Thumbnail Design - Concept Three
The final set of thumbnails that I wanted to create was ones that were reminiscent on the shows opening theme to place the focus on Belly and her love of a good late night private swim.
Take a look at the theme at the start of this video above.

Lastly, I had an idea to do a reversible set of images to show the two different romances she has with each of the fisher brothers, with Jeremiah being more light and fun, meanwhile, Conrad's being more serious and stormy.

To execute this concept project, I used still images from the show and logos sourced from Amazon's press site in addition to the sea shell design that was repurposed from the books for Amazon's merch store in addition to any stock imagery I found that felt like it fit (which is not included on this page.)
