Rug Making, 2021

I was asked to design a punch needle rug based on the quote "The Royal Family chooses pantone color for their baby's skin tone." I redesigned a baby pacifier and shaped the sucker into a gem shape and decorated the bottom portion with a crown shape. I was inspired by the snack I enjoyed as a child, the "Ring Pop". Frank Richards, a product engineer at Topps Company, invented Ring Pops in 1979. To help his daughter break her thumb-sucking habit, he invented the Ring Pop as a treat.

"Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, said the royal family was concerned about her baby's skin tone, and Prince Harry condemned his relatives for not criticising colonial undertones in media coverage, in a series of damning and disturbing claims that threaten to spark a racism scandal around Buckingham Palace."

Fig 1. Pantone Ruby Wine, Due to the name, 'Ruby Wine', I added the pantone color numerical value in order to emphasise the concept of the sucker being a gem.
