In my final week at Staffordshire University I took advantage of access to the Pro-Tools HD suites to record an acoustic cover of Black Swan Song by Athlete.
All parts were performed by myself or my brother.
Acoustic Guitar was recorded using a single Neumann TLM103
A simple 3 microphone technique was used for drums, with a pair of AKG C414s as overheads and the Neumann as a mid microphone
The Bass was recorded through the TL Audio Ivory valve compressor directly into the digidesign 92 A/D convertor. A subtle amount of compression was applied to 'thicken' up the sound providing the low end bass to the track.
A quick monitor mix was created in the time remaining before the session was saved to be mixed at home.
Using my Macbook Pro running Pro-Tools 9.0.3 at home I added MIDI piano and organ parts then comp'd the best vocal and guitar takes, adding small amounts of compression, EQ and reverb and automation to create the finished piece.
