The Publicity Department wanted to create a buzz for the release party of this book. Taking a cue from the story, the invite included a cryptic message (partially printed on both sides of the card) which is “revealed” when the card is held before a light source.
The cover of the card was later used as the book jacket artwork. I subsequently created all the cover and interior map art for the other books in this NY Times Bestselling series.

Interior Map: After Ember was evacuated, squatters find and pillage the once great City, turning it into a shantytown. By drawing over the original map (which is visible through the smoke), readers are shown the City's decay into Darkhold.
