The SIU 'Stache Out event was inspired by North Dakota State University (NDSU) and SIU Head Football Coach Dale Lennon. Lennon was previously the coach of the NDSU football team and they held their own 'Stache Out event previously. On the Salukis’ previous two road trips to North Dakota State, Bison fans wore fake mustaches to steal the power of the mustache from Lennon. This was the Salukis' attempt to take it back.
