When Caltrain set off to adopt a long-range service vision through its business plan, it recognized the significance of securing approval from all 21 of the local jurisdictions it serves. To help make this happen, our team developed customized community booklets highlighting community-specific service statistics, maps, diagrams, and photos unique to each location. The printed booklets were brought to meetings with local community staff to help facilitate thoughtful discussion and create an understanding of how Caltrain’s future plans could impact their communities.

Initial booklet design was inspired by Caltrain’s current branding. In order to break down complex information into easily digestible visuals, however, our team would need more than just an appealing color palette or font selection. Following many iterations, our efforts resulted in simple yet effective charts and diagrams to help local staff understand the why, how, and what could be accomplished through Caltrain’s vision.
