Mom & Monkey, Alphabets, Number and Color Cards

Mom & Monkey
Learning Cards

The work included the creation of graphics and the design of 124 cards for children, to learn the alphabet, numbers, shapes of geometric figures, colors, and parts of the whole. The client also asked for logos, packaging, boxes, and instructions to be designed. We created not only graphic cards as a product, but also its branding and key visuals. Colors and illustrations were supposed to attract and please the eye, be intense and memorable, and be done in a simple, childlike style.

The first challenge was that the project was to be adapted to educational standards in Canada and refer to its traditions, because it was intended for the local English-speaking market. Another was that the graphic designs of the cards had to be consistent despite the different issues being presented. Alphabet cards, numbers, or colors had to be designed in a completely different way. It was a very interesting challenge, because, despite the differences in layout and partly in form, the whole project had to be consistent.

We considered the problem using unified colors and graphics styles. Another challenge was to match the size to maximize the comfort of using, holding, and writing on the cards in a child's hand at preschool age. During the work, we printed cards and invited children to cooperate, who checked whether the standards were appropriate. The next problems were safety and durability. The next one was the actual recipient. The cards are designed to work in educational institutions, such as schools or kindergartens, but also in an individual 1:1 course. So we focused on safety and durability. The cards have rounded edges, and the cards are protected with a foil that is very pleasant to the touch, which strengthens them and allows you to write on a trace and erase with a special felt-tip pen.

Finishing the description of this project, we would like to emphasize that the graphic designer working on the illustration has been working with kindergartens for 10 years, which allowed us to better match the project to the expectations of children, and in combination with our knowledge and experience, we have also created solutions that make the product very friendly and nice to use.
