SANGO (God of Thunder) Artworks

In Yoruba mythology, Sango also known as Jakuta is perhaps the most popular Orisha; he is god of thunder and lightning and as well one of the most worshipped gods all over the world.

Sango was a royal ancestor of the Yoruba, as he was the third king of the Oyo Kingdom.

Sango viewed as the most powerful and feared of the Orisa Pantheon. He casts a ‘Thunderstone’ to Earth, which creates ‘Thunder and Lightning’.

[...Sango is known as the Lord of Thunder, a master herbalist, and one who metes out Justice by means of the thunder and fire. It is good to note that thunder stones are also thrown to strike his enemies down. He is considered one of the most powerful rulers of the Yoruba land. While one of his remarkable quality was that his rage was venomous, much that every effort to placate or pacify an angry Sango would end in futility. It is said that no one dare look in the eyes of a typically angry Sango, as fire would often be seen emerging from his mouth.
