Editorial Design - Book Sleeve

This book sleeve visually provides the viewer, i.e., someone browsing books in a store, what the essence of the book is about. The author’s name is placed in larger, bold type to see the author at a glance whilst browsing to easily identify the book by name first. The title of the book is placed in smaller type and a different typeface (East Sea Dokdo) to give the thriller feel to the book’s contents; it’s not just about four (4) happy-go-lucky friends. The typeface chosen for the title and author’s name are repeated on the spine of the book for consistency when only the spine is visible on the shelf.
In setting the scene for the bed I created for the photograph, I attempted to give that visual sense that the bed was slept in, toss and turned in, without much sleep. The sheets are creased and rumpled with the pillows askew. The pillows are purposely not neatly placed on the bed, again, to add to that sense of unsettle in the bed. I have also given an overall darker appearance to the photograph to enhance the overall thriller theme to the book instead of a bright, light feeling.
