Mediaeval is a Gothic Literary Magazine, represented by its custom typeface and media kit mailer. The company is a new monthly magazine publishing some of the more well-known pieces in Gothic literature, as well as new authors eager to cut their teeth. The media kit primarily targets advertisers, reviewers, and bloggers in the Gothic subculture and horror fiction spheres. Color for this brand is kept traditionally gothic: black and white, with accents of purple, as a step away from the cliche red, while still adding an active color to the brand. The body copy is in Futura, for its geometric lines and curves to counter the rougher, more hand-rendered appearance of the Mediaeval typeface, which appears as headers and display elements to showcase the unusual nature of the type. The custom type is inspired by John Dee’s Enochian, or “Angelic Language”, for its unusual weights and shapes. A secondary typeface of Goudy Text is used to add a blackletter ornamentation to the text, and help tie the geometric Futura to Mediaeval. The form of the mailer box is a custom-made book, implying the nature of the work produced by the company, while accommodating the shape and size of the large quill pen, and its box. In addition, it contains an inkwell and bottle, hand-carved wooden gargoyle USB, which holds the assets, and a small booklet which provides information on the company, a pricing sheet, print production schedules, and other relevant information.
