Unlike visual space, sound can offer a sense of immersion and understanding to our environment. An acoustic space is capable of simultaneity, superimposition, and nonlinearity – the possibility that many events occur in the same zone of space and time. Sound can affect people in a different dimension and create an atmosphere that allows people to engage the environment. I recorded sounds in the neighborhood of Astoria, NYC and visualized them based on my understanding of the space and the associations. As I replay them without being in the actual spaces and locations, the sounds take me to another dimension of understanding the environment, which has become infused with layers of my memories. I then translated the acoustic media into mood visualization graphics. Read Less
