SLSQ Website Redesign

SLSQ Website Redesign
Surf Life Saving Queensland

Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ) needed a professional and contemporary re-development of their website from planning through to execution and delivery. The key objectives include generating revenue, providing education, building brand authority, and building audiences.

As a Lead Designer of this project I worked closely with the product owner, our creative and development teams to deliver the best outcome to SLSQ and end users.

Lead UX/UI designer: Chirayu Fon Charernsook
Company: MMR
This project was completed remotely during Covid-19 pandemic.
The task was to bring together different organisational arms, resources, and content into one central website. Essentially, this involved combining information from four existing websites, along with a new online store, and integrating additional functionalities such as a booking system, online ticket purchases, participation registration, and more.

The new site had to be a customisable, flexible, and easy-to-use content management system (CMS) that would enable the client to update the website effortlessly. Additionally, it was crucial to ensure that the website was hosted on a secure and scalable platform.
The timeline for the project was very tight given its scale. We had around 4 weeks to complete the design stages, which included creating a new information architecture, wireframes, prototypes, and the overall look and feel of the brand.

We were provided with a workshop summary and website analytics report from the SLSQ team. This information helped us in creating the new information architecture.

After the design phase, we had approximately 8 weeks left until the launch date, which was the first sprint for development. Typically, this phase could take around 6 months for similar projects.

To ensure the project was delivered on time, we followed an agile methodology in the project timeline, allowing us to adapt and iterate efficiently.
The original UI design had certain limitations that the client wanted to address, particularly in terms of the available templates for creating new content. However, the updated UI design successfully tackled this pain point. The new design is clean, approachable, and maintains a professional appearance. It strikes a well-balanced composition between images, text, and graphics, effectively establishing a clear hierarchy of content.
A comprehensive UI Kit was provided to the developer team, enabling them to implement the design consistently. The example on the screen represents just a small glimpse of the extensive UI Kit that was made available.
The client was happy with the new look & feel, which set out their brand direction for 2021. The revamped user journey worked well with the objectives and had massively improved the navigation throughout the website. Additionally, the UI design was delivered on time, including key templates for 10 sections with over 200 page designs.
