Benchpai (Bench+Charpai)
A self initated project to understand the forms we see locally and understand forces that inform the form to be the way its percieved and develop a seating .
The initiative was thought to recycle old discarded furniture seatings from my institute, manipulate the structure to inform the form of seating by taking inspiration from the structure of an indigenous furniture called CHARPAI or KHATIA used in rural context and bring in the forces of Comfort and Breathability which the inspired form provides. The name fuses the devanagari term 'Pai' which is derived from the name of the furniture 'Charpai'(Four Legged) and latin word 'Bench' which is a narrow seating used outdoors, fusing the context of both east and the west and create a seating which offers those associations of rural India, individuals often have with stargazing and relaxing .
