COLORANDO IL BUIO

"Colorando il buio" is a project created by "Lavoro e non solo" and "Liberarci dalle spine" associations, that operate in Corleone to revalue land and property expropriated to the Mafia. The first part of the project was completed with the creation of two murals, the first inside of the Cooperative headquarters' "Lavoro e non solo" (ex mafia building), the other one on a big wall of a house in the countryside Corleone, a building witnessed a mafia massacre of countryman. This unique experience has been well documented and summarized by a major publication edited by the Laboratorio 48 with the following beautiful foreword by
Rita Borsellino (Nationa President association “Un’altra storia").

"Colorando il buio" is a title that I really like, you know, you can color anything that's without it. You can. This Sicily, so battered and often left in the dark, has many colors in nature and the pictures in this brochure get some of the most beautiful shades. The yellow ears of corn mixes the green of the fields, in which the cooperative's boys "Lavoro e non solo" (coordinated by Calogero Parisi in Corleone) operate with such dedication and passion.  They have pulled the best fruits out of the earth, that the bitter land for a long time in the hands of the mafia. The best red tomatoes, , which is not the red color of blood, the innocent blood of those who fell victim to this land under the blows of mafia. These pictures is about a little bit of Sicily. Who takes it - like i did - along the road can not miss the smells, the colors, unplayable, sometimes lonely landscapes that disperse only by the colors of the hills, the uniformity of the roofs of the houses seen from above. Seeing these photos the faces struck me , the faces of the volunteers who worked on the project, faces that tell stories, each one with her to join a common project, the spirit of rebirth that alone would be enough to redeem this land from the brand that unfortunately still under mafia's power.
At first sight, the image of the murals depicting the uprising of the workers "Il quarto Stato" is incredible , it is in the middle of a field, a symbolic image that goes well with the environment, as powerful and full of meaning that is expanded by the image of artists at work to make it happen under the hottest Sicily's sun or in the dark of the night with the moon that alone illuminate their faces.
