"Daxi in Sketches: A Journey Through Art and Craft"

I recently had the incredible opportunity to participate in an art residency program at the Daxi Wood Art Ecopark, an enchanting park area nestled on a hill and bordered by a serene riverside. My residency spanned from February 27 to May 7, during which I resided in an old Japanese house that formerly served as a dormitory for Japanese police officers.
From the very first day, I was captivated by the unique charm of Japanese architecture. The dynamic and exquisite designs left me in awe, fueling my admiration and love for the beauty encapsulated in these structures.
During my residency, I would wander through the city, sketchpad in hand, seeking to capture the essence of Daxi. This series of sketches is an homage to the city's multifaceted character. I was particularly drawn to the contrasting elements of the city: the quiet charm of its historical streets and parks juxtaposed against the bustling energy of its modern city streets. Each sketch in this series reflects a piece of Daxi, a city of contrasts and a city that I've come to love deeply.
Sketching the workshops of Daxi's master craftsmen was a particularly enjoyable experience. I found immense pleasure in capturing their work spaces, focusing on the minute details that make each one unique.
My sketches are currently on display at the Craft Exchange Hall in the Daxi Wood Art Ecological Museum and will remain there until October 2023. I warmly invite everyone to visit and explore these works firsthand.
