Zoobu (Zoo Believers Unite) is a project that identifies a social issue and creates a design solution, as part of the Design Ignites Change program. The project was done in three phases: 1) Research, Analysis, Messaging and Campaign Strategy 2) Visual Branding and Campaign Components and 3) Campaign Implementation. Problem Statement: The Smithsonian National Zoo is a renowned place that serves two million visitors a year from the local community, the country, and the rest of the world. Despite the Zoo’s positive reputation, there have been numerous accounts of animal deaths, illnesses, malnutrition, injuries, and escapes linked to the National Zoo’s insufficient resources. There is a lack of money, space, qualified staff, and policy implementation; these resources must be abundant in order to keep animal care the top priority. People need to be educated about the distress and misfortune that a number of the animals have experienced. The zoo should be a sanctuary for the animals that accommodates the specific needs of a species, yet remain a place of research, education, and conservation. The Zoo animals rely on us to keep them alive and well, and it is our responsibility to make sure they are respected and taken care of. Vision: The National Zoo as a sanctuary for zoo animals to live happy and healthy lives, according to their species and personal needs. Mission: Inspire the community to help the National Zoo attain enough resources to ensure the utmost well-being for all of the animals. Read Less
