Female players are degraded within the video game community, which deters females from participating.
The solution was to re-design the report system in the popular MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) game, League of Legends.
Its population is growing quickly and the amount of trash talk, harassment, negative attitudes and trolling (not taking the game seriously, and hindering players’ game play) is increasing with it. The purpose of this solution is to prevent continuous virtual harassment, teaching the offender empathy and giving the victim a means to defend themselves within video game environments.
I came up with a system that included a form of feedback to the reporter (where it did not exist) by enabling toxic player identification, a jury duty-like system that allows internal judgment by multiple players based on a recent reported case, a reward system and incentive for honor and judgment, a regulation of toxic players in game matches, a form of regulation for major reports sent to game moderators, and a complete report card sent to the offender (to enable empathy, and understand consequences to their actions).
Initially, I wanted to focus on the top three genres of games:
World of Warcraft - MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game)
Call of Duty - FPS (First Person Shooter)
League of Legends - MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena)
However, I reduced the genre to MOBAs, and focused mainly on League of Legends.
