The vineyards are situated in the flatland region Louny about 150 kilometres from Prague / Czech Republic. The idea was to create a distinctive building in the middle of the vineyard, which will attract visitors from the far and claim that wine is being produced here.

The winery combines several functions - housing for the owner and his sister, winemaking, wine tasting and accommodation for tourists. To arrange these functions in one building it was necessary to follow a clear concept. The Winemaking as well as the residential part has its own specific needs so they are situated on different floors.
The life on a vineyard is in a constant connection with nature and that is what the owner offers to experience to his guests. All the guest rooms have its own private terrace and access to the rooms and all the other passages through the building are kept in the exterior as much as possible. By blurring the boundaries between interior and exterior we have the chance of observing the surroundings at every step.

The wine production is situated on the lower floor which is partly under the ground. The concept is simple: the grapes are poured on one side of the building and on the other side it goes out as a bottled wine. The winery uses gravity flow winemaking, the preferred technology to achieve the best quality wine.

When I think of the vineyard, the beautiful landscape around and the winemaking process I see the winery building as a liquid form. The building also needed an effective shading system for the long southern facade. For the winery I designed an unique parametrically shaped facade made of wooden slats. The distance between the slats was constant from the beginning, by adding a gradient to the script it made it more dynamic and responsive to its content. The fluid shape was rationalized, the slats have a bigger hight where there is a need of more shading. The spacing escalates in front of the permanent residences to offer a better view and decreases towards both ends of the building.
