Sister Settings Art Exhibition

"Sister Settings" Art Exhibition
For the final menu and poster design I created a gradient butterfly design with the butterfly and vulvar motif as the background. I used triangular shapes to frame the photos and logo. Each side of menu incorporated colors and gradients of pink and purple for a cohesive design.
The logo was incorporated into a double-sided poster that advertised the Sister Settings Exhibit and served dual purpose as a menu detailing information about each installation table setting of the featured woman.  For the menu design I wanted to emulate the triangular table in “The Dinner Setting” by creating triangular shapes. The challenge was getting every plate design to fit into the menu space.
The Logo sheets displays the transition to the final design for the logo on the right. I initially wanted a colorful color palette of light purple and pink, but later settled on a more monochromatic color scheme of purples to better fit my menu design.
For the "Sister Settings" logo I created a table made of eating utensils with flowing hands as legs that also have a feminine feel of a woman’s hair.  The hands on the logo are a rendition of the butterfly and vulvar motifs of the original art designs that Judy Chicago painted on the plates for each table setting. The goblet also has a vulvar motif that represents the woman and the feminist art of Judy Chicago. The logo was then encased with a circular design as a representation of the plates for each woman honored at the table.
This thumbnail sketches and mind map to create a logo that supports the "Sister Settings" brand. I used concepts that reflect the handcrafted items and materials used (such as the triangular table, goblets, etc.) to create Judy Chicago's "The Dinner Table." My concepts also reflected woman, sisterhood, and feminism.
Sister Settings
Sister Settings is an annual visual installation and art exhibition at Anne Arundel Community College. This exhibition is a homage to the iconic feminist artist Judy Chicago's fabrication of the “The Dinner Party," which is a ceremonial banquet on a large triangular table that commemorates women throughout history and their contributions to society.

Many students from different disciplines of study collaborate and come together to honor women throughout history and to recreate a similar rendition of “The Dinner Table”.
The focus for this brand project was Branding Identity Design by creating a logo and menu for the event.
