My design is a covered outdoor learning area for primary school-aged students that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The space features a central tree that provides a natural focal point and shade for students to gather around. Art displays around the exterior of the space showcase student artwork, creating an engaging and interactive environment. The art displays not only provide visual interest but also allow students to display their creations to fellow students, visitors, and teachers in passing. The covered outdoor learning area is an excellent addition to any primary school, providing a fun and educational space for students to learn and play.
The hall prioritises natural lighting to create a comfortable and conducive learning environment. Large windows, roof louvers and curtain walls are incorporated to allow for abundant natural light to enter the space. The natural lighting both ensures consistent illumination throughout the day as well as reduces the need of artificial light and in turn, energy consumption. The large window directs the sun towards the speaker, illuminating them during use of the lecture hall. The curtain wall allows students, parents and visitors seated on the lecture steps a view to the outside of the hall, highlighting the large tree directly outside. Moreover, the mechanical louvers can be adjusted depending on weather conditions, and can in turn create an open-air environment. In addition, beneath the stairs is a gallery space that showcases students' artwork to all visitors and members of the school community. The gallery creates a vibrant and engaging atmosphere that promotes creativity and inspiration . Hence, the lecture hall is suitable for a variety of events, including lectures, presentations, and exhibitions.
The classroom design features a unique reading mezzanine that is elevated above a shared courtyard between a cluster of two classrooms. This layout promotes collaborative learning and creativity, allowing students to interact with each other in a relaxed and engaging environment. The mezzanine provides a quiet space for students to read and study, while the courtyard beneath it serves as a communal gathering area for students to socialize and engage in activities. Additionally, the classroom features empty artboards around the exterior, encouraging students to contribute their own artwork to the space. This creates a vibrant and dynamic atmosphere, inspiring students to express themselves creatively and encouraging a sense of ownership and pride in their learning environment. Overall, the design promotes a collaborative and inclusive learning experience that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and social interaction. A combination of fixed and movable furniture in a classroom can provide flexibility and adaptability to meet different learning needs. Fixed furniture is placed around the edges of the rooms to create a stable and secure learning environment, while movable furniture is placed in the middle to allow for collaboration, group work, and different seating arrangements. This design combines stability and flexibility to promote a dynamic and engaging learning experience.
Extra deliverables and final iterations of above drawings to be added on the 1st of June.
