Cobwood Oak Round House

During my first and second year of University i worked with Neil from Earthmovesdesign to create this cob wood oak round house.

The round house's strength comes from its solid Oak henge frame, the roof is reciprocal so each beam supports the previous. The same idea as when you fold the edges of a carboard box.

The wall are made up of cob and various sectional cut wood.

Cob - Made from hydrated lime, soil, water, sharp sand and hay is mixed together to form a natural cement like material

The Large bay window was made from reclamed led windows and straignt sections channeled out to slot the frame into.

The wall thickness is arround 40cm thick, with straw compacted between the cob to create a neutral inside temperature.

The roof is fitted with a sprinkler system and seeded with flowering meddow seed.

The building can be used for various purposes from tea rooms, story telling and bee keeping classes.
