JCC 2022

Carthage film festival is the first and the most prestigious film festival in the region. This year we’ll celebrate its 33rd edition To achieve this level of longevity , the festival has remained faithful to its founding purpose.

Drawing attention and raising the profile of films in the region with the aim of contributing towards the development of African and Arabic cinema and celebrating it at an international level.

To convey this message of resolve , willpower , hope and dreams we went for a poster with many layered meanings and readings at the core of the JCC’s values. and we found the perfect movie for it.
A film that speaks volumes about our message
A film rich with symbolism and complexities
An astonishing film so ferocious and haunting
The first film to win a grand at the first JCC back in 66”
And to go on and solidify itself as a classic in African and International cinema’s history with its director being named « the father of African film »

The poster is inspired by a scene in the film where Diouana is walking on a "sacred" monument as her companion shouts asking her to desenced. By choosing this particular scene we also want to convey a message of freedom and empowerment , values  that are at the backbone of cinema.
We also wanted to bring our own ideas and interpretation to the scene so we added birds flying out Diouana’s dress to further emphasize freedom , we added calligraphy to symbolize the festival’s arabic roots and we chose a color palette that perfectly captures the mediterranean.
What makes our country so special is the amalgamation of different cultures , roots , ideas , conviction.
Tunisia is Arabic , African , Amazigh ,Carthaginan and that’s what we wanted to capture through the JCC’s poster.
