2023 PROVOST'S COLLOQUIUM FLYER
This poster was one of the first projects I was involved in at IntersectLA, and our client was seeking a design for a flyer promoting their yearly Provost's Colloquium at California State University, Northridge.
The speaker for 2023 was Dr. Myriam Forster, who focuses on the role of early life course adversity in adolescent and young adult health outcomes. Dr. Forster’s lecture discussed the impact of familial incarceration on youth and communities and highlighted the promise of university-community partnerships for public health research and practice, and the training opportunities they provide.
PROCESS
My immediate pursuit was to find a heartwarming stock photo that illustrated a moment of a parent and their child walking together, and I also wanted to find a striking stock photo of the the same person with the orange jumpsuit uniform that is often seen in media on prisoners in the justice system. I could not find an image that would match style the heartwarming drawing that I wanted to use, so I discovered a drawing of a man in a sailor uniform from the same author and drew in some features to make the outfit look like a jumpsuit.
In addition, I also wanted to look for a fitting font that complemented the story being told by the illustration. I was looking for a font that was rugged yet at the same time playful to show contrast between the two ideas.
Overall, my goal was to create a seamless transition between the father's past involvement in the justice system and the father's current life with his child. The result was a powerful visual representation of the impact of familial incarceration on family dynamics and youth development.
WEB BANNER
Following the successful completion of the flyer design, I was given the additional responsibility of creating a web banner that conveyed the same theme. The banner was published on the event website, reaching a broader audience and enhancing the impact of the design.
Overall, this project was my first opportunity to showcase one of my works publicly, and I consider it one of my most notable achievements!
