DARUMA DOLL
This project was created during my live streams on Behance for the Adobe Education Leaders program.

The image was created using Adobe Illustrator and during the streams I discussed the history of the Daruma Doll.

I felt that it was important to share how it came to be as well as the significance of one white eye and one black eye. That you paint one eye black when starting a task and the other eye is painted after that task is finished.

I also talked about how the various colors of Daruma Dolls represent various things as well. See the caption below for the meanings.

Overall, the stream was not about creating art but sharing culture with others.

Subscribers to my Behance channel can view the live tutorials and as well as several other tutorials.

First I created the basic shape, then began doing a quick sketch of the details of the Daruma Doll.
I really enjoy creating the line art of this particular illustration. I wanted to give the Daruma Doll my own style.  Since there are various stories surrounding this cultural object, I decided to give him a grumpy look.
Here is the final image of the Daruma Doll.
Each color of a Daruma Doll represents something: Red (Good Luck / Fortune), Orange (Academic Success / Prosperity), Purple (Personal Development / Health), Golden (Money / Glory), Black/Grey (Business / Strength), Yellow (Protection / Security), Green (Health),  Pink (Love), White (Purity / Balance), and Blue which is not shown (Career Success).
