Multimedia and Shadow Theatre

Wayang Kulit, or shadow puppetry is defined not only by the distinctive form of the hand carved puppet, by also by the intangible elements that make up a complete performance – the movement and shadows, the music, and the social event that is a wayang show. Modern wayang kulit also has a sense of self-reference, where the audience is acknowledged and made to see the show in a new light and reduce the element of passive watching – it negotiates the line between real life and performance.

The theatre is an investigation of the fabrication of space through the tectonic element of the wall. The architecture combines concrete, metal and glass with shadows, colours and smells, with the life occurring in and around the building as the architectural expression.
