Metro Ticket Machine - evaluation and redesign

The current ticket machine of Metro Athens is a public service and so, it should be accessible by all, including people with and without special needs, such as blind people or people with vision problems, deaf or people with hearing problems, and including people of all ages and nations, such as elderly people, children, tourists, a parent with a baby stroller, someone with a wheelchair. We evaluated the current ticket machine through the principles of design for all and we studied the attributes of our new wide target group. So, we reached in a new design of the ticket machine, both in its form and in the user interface. The new ticket machine includes the following:

- A touch screen: the user can set the height where the menu interface will be appeared, by touching the screen. This is suitable for people of all heights and people in wheelchair.
- Empty space under the screen: suitable for people with wheelchairs
- Path designed for blind people
- 3 level system for ordering and receiving the ticket: easier guidance for blind people
- Voice system: an alternative way for ordering tickets suitable for blind people
- 6 buttons in Braille system: with this buttons and the voice system, the blind people can order their ticket successfully
- Dividers: the user feels safer, and the noise from the environment is reduced
- Handle: an additional support for elderly people
User Interface

Interface: The interaction of the user with the interface is designed with a linear sequence of options , so the user can see what previous options has made, and he doesn't have to remember them.
