Flat vs. Skeuomorphic App Interface Screen
The topic I chose for the app interface is an all-inclusive Smart Home app that handles lights, smart plugs, HVAC, cameras, and weather stations. The final solutions use a cool color palette with greens, blues, and grays because the app’s functions are not only for convenience but energy efficiency. I like both designs. The flat design has the contemporary view in many current apps with rounded rectangle tiles and round buttons. The contrast is strong in most places, while the unselected Smart Home features at the bottom are more subdued, so the user is clear about the active Smart Home Feature. I wanted to differentiate the “On” button for the Living Room since that is the active button, yet other lights are on, so I made the text inside those buttons light gray.
