noun
noun: avant-grunge
1. new and unusual or experimental ideas, especially in the arts, or the people introducing them.

While grunge is a term that generally relates to the era of the 1990's, we have seen a resurgence in the areas of fashion, music, arts, and culture that surrounded this rebellious stage. Like a hormonal teen, grunge can be all encompassing and appeal to many forms of youth; mostly due to its counter-culture facade that ironically is found in the face and body of passerby in the streets. It has metamorphosed into a sort of 'hipster' fashion but is still reliant on the foundation of your fathers flannel shirts, Clinton 92' patches (even though it's 2015), and a D.A.R.E. shirt that you never wore after the fifth grade school wide seminar but now think is hilariously ironic every time you trip salvia.

Yep; this is you sitting in your basement listening to Nirvana's 'Bleach' on a floral record player that you spray painted the sides of when your older brothers eighteen year old girlfriend gleefully commented how she got the same one at Urban Outfitters (you got the vinyl there too, didn't you)?

Here we are left to leaf through the lyrics of dead musicians, reinterpreting the age old song that has been sung so many times and ways before by so many people. We repurpose and reuse relics of the past; thrifted finds at vintage shops and ornamental fixtures of the days of yore are moved from the attic to the basement. We are not new; we are shells of what we once were; reincarnated versions that have lived these lives before, searching for Nirvana.
