Where Portraits Hang...
This series idea and concept of this series was "WHERE WOULD PORTRAITS HANG"?
Let me explain this past series I just wrapped up and got it professionally shot so I could have good photos to submit to contests, gallery shows, social media, etc.

This series is a multi-year and multi-media usage, I wanted to create a NEW series to show to galleries and have NEW pieces on my website and in my portfolio. I was kicking around some ideas and was not too sure of the direction I wanted to go with this series. Was there going to be a message and if so what would that message or topic be? What topic/subject matter do I want to talk about through my artwork? So many to choose from and picking the right topic at the right time is sometimes hard and challenging to your career. I came across a documentary on one of my favorite artists and friends Robert Williams, the godfather of low-brow art. The co-founder of the Juxtapoz magazine for underground artists. The documentary is called “Mr. Bitchin’”…after watching this I found my topic and found me how would you say I found my “Passion” and my drive and got a great message out of the documentary. What I got out of this documentary was that he (Robert Williams) did not waver and stuck to his guns. He did not waver or listen to all the naysayers about his artwork when he was starting and sticking to his style. To me, that shows confidence in yourself and your talent. Finding a style and carving out your name in the art industry.

With this now in my head, I wanted to go back and take 5 words that mean a lot to me in my life and my career. I set off to set the type and then get the words 3D printed at my house. I almost didn’t go with the 3D type part of the project because I had trouble with getting out the words the way I vision them in my head. But I went back and fixed the problem and then I set off to find the images I wanted to use in the project. I wanted to find images of people that had an impact on my career and help me figure out my style from high school through college. I also wanted to use a couple of different styles in each painting to match the scene and the topic.

I wanted to bring in a good amount of new media and put it all together to tell a story per painting. Each painting is 2 12”x24”x1” wood panels with 1 9”x12”x1” wood panel attached to it. Each word has a meaning to each painting. When I started to think and plan this series I knew there would be some logistics to getting all 3 paintings together as 1 painting to hang. It took a little bit to figure it out. But that was fun to build and figure this problem out. I learned a lot from the start to the finish of the whole project. Although this was a bigger project than I expected it turned out great and glad I went through the whole process and figured out everything.

Now this series is done, I can now move on to the next series that was also developed from this series and stick with the Portraits and add my little spin onto it….stay tuned to my social media sites and this site. I will post process photos of the series…

I am posting all the process and production and all the little video clips to show you how I put this whole project together and then showing you the final versions of the paintings.
