During January aka “divorce month”, the Montreal SPCA wanted to raise awareness that owning a pet is a truly lasting relationship, first by encouraging adoption, also by informing couples about their pets’ rights in a PR-driven effort. The campaign comes as Quebec is in the midst of its first family law reform since the 1980’s.
In the wait of change in the law, the Montreal SPCA has elaborated a first-of-its-kind animal custody agreement, which is valid in the eyes of legal authorities and available to everyone for free. This way, couples with pets protect the welfare of their little loved ones.
