Flying clothes

Freezing motion with ScoroS in t0.1 from Broncolor

As still life photographer I usually deal with still compositions, working with plates, wiring and hanging products in order to create dynamic and floating situations.
Until I got the challenge to shoot ‘flying clothes’ for the ‘’Sustainability Hub’’ for #zalando , round about 12 articles in 1/2 day production time.
In order to make sure that everything will run smoothly and get everything done in the tight deadline, there was sone previous work to be done.
- How do we do the products fly (wiring and hanging would take to long);
- If catching the clothes in the flight, how do we freeze movement and avoid motion blur and unsharp edges?
- What do I need for HSS photography?
- Using the movement tracing AF function.

After some research and some previous testing, we used for the shooting the ScoroS in t0.1 from Broncolor.
The t0.1 option gives the possibility to freeze movement at up to 1/10.000s shutter speed - way more than we needed. What one also has to consider is that the higher the speed, the lower the power that one would have to compensate (open the aperture, increase ISO).
We decided to use in in t: 1/8.000s and were still able to close to f:11, with using one generator/ flash head. Again more than enough for our needs.

I was positively surprised of the results. No blurry edges. No motion blur. Everything crisply sharp and everything went smooth and we professionally dealt with our small ‘Still life’ challenge.
I was very happy to be part of this challenging project and grateful for the supportive work of the entire team.
