The San Andreas Fault is a geological feature that stretches approximately 800 miles through California. It is the boundary between the North American and Pacific tectonic plates, and it is known for its frequent seismic activity. As I worked on the project, I couldn't help but think about the San Andreas Fault. The textured surfaces I created resembled the fault line, with deep cracks and fissures running through them. Just like the tectonic plates, the layers of paint and thickener shifted and moved, creating a dynamic and ever-changing landscape.

I used a hot air pistol to warm the surfaces, just as the Earth's crust is heated and melted by the intense pressure and heat from the movement of the tectonic plates. As the liquid thickener dried and cracked, it created the same kinds of geological formations that can be seen along the San Andreas Fault.
