Independence, autonomy and freedom of thought are the core values of the Staatstheater Mainz and its newly appointed artistic director Markus Müller. The result is a dynamic and experimental program, a tightrope walk blending traditional and contem-porary elements of modern theatre and story telling. The new corporate identity is a reflection of Müller’s attitude and conviction. At the cen-ter of the CI resides a circled five-pointed star logo representing not only the revolutionary and unconventional approach of the theater’s new direction, but also combining the elements of acting, dancing, opera and music as fundamental artistic expressions based on the star’s golden ratio. Transferring the concept of the stage as a substitutional dis-play for the world, a white washed photo box is widely used offering a similar empty stage re-creating and re-interpreting the world from a theatrical point of view. In the box, as on stage anything goes — anytime. The box will be a permanently circulating fixture throughout the city of Mainz. Pit Stenkhoff, Creative Director states that the simplicity of the logo working almost against any companying visual, whether it be imagery or additional graphics generates a “straight in your face” effect. It is a strong statement of being present, claiming and occupying public space, whether it be with a photo box or a logo. It is supposed to generate friction and gather people's attention culminating in a public discourse about the theatre in general, liking or disliking the visual and theatrical concept like. Read Less
