The diploma thesis “Nature as a role model for design” deals with the relations between design and nature. It provides an overview of the possibilities which biodiversity of nature offers for designers as a source of inspiration and considers the question whether nature and design could be combined and assorted well together.

The beauty and perfection of nature creates lots of opportunities for extraordinary ideas and innovative solutions. The thesis explains the connection between Art and Science, refers to harmonies in design and shows relations concerning Graphicdesign, Painting, Architecture and Bionics. It explores the topic of nature, in particular that of humans, animals and plants. Other points show the importance of symmetry of nature, as well as the exemplary function of nature for ornamental art. Based on this knowledge different experimental and ornamental patterns were created. It shows to which extent the nature has an influence on creative work and under which conditions this fact can be used.
