A photo series for Backbones, Reinventing the Wheel. Backbones is a non-profit that helps individuals and families with spinal cord injuries connect and network with others who have similar backgrounds, injuries and interests. I was commissioned to photograph Christopher Hydahl, who was injured in a diving accident at the age of 27, for a touring educational photo exhibit. Christopher lives in Los Angeles and is an award winning senior associate at Blueprint Healthcare Real Estate Advisors.
I was fortunate enough to spend quite a bit of time with Christopher, enough that he became a friend. I documented his day as he took part in grueling physical therapy session, I introduced him to my girlfriend, Mandy and our Labrador and we had drinks and talked about curveballs that life can sometimes throw our way.
