Concept illustration for Wired
This conceptual illustration is made for the article "Neuromarketing and the battle for your brain" by Nita Farahny. The full article can be found here: https://www.wired.com/story/neuromarketing-philosophy-ethics/
The article discusses cognitive liberty and how manipulation is used to influence our decision making on the web.
I always begin my illustration process by reading the article or text a few times to really understand what it is about. If the theme is unfamiliar, I do some additional research to be able to portray the topic as accurately as possible. I then write down some keywords as well as phrases from the text that stuck out to me and start sketching based on my notes.
For this illustration I was inspired by the phrase "As of yet, no one has discovered the so called buy button in our brains". I thought that illustrating this pharse would be a interesting visualisation and a good summary for the article.
