Project description:

The “Icebergs Towers” project aims to change the view on Nuclear Power, by demonstrating how a power plant can have different forms. This project involves building a power plant on a decommissioned oil rig to accommodate different types of inhabitants who can have access to research laboratories, educational facilities, while living with workers that can deepen the knowledge we already have about nuclear power.
This project is inspired by the paradoxical nature of nuclear power. Like an Iceberg, nuclear energy is a complex system that is mostly hidden from view. The visible tip of the iceberg represents the incidents that people associate with nuclear power, but most of the population doesn’t see the enormous advances in infrastructure, scientific knowledge, and engineering that makes it all better and possible.
This project is inspired by an MIT thesis named “offshore floating nuclear plant”. Which addresses problems such as power plants being expensive, scarcity of cooling water, safety of neighboring population, and risk of earthquakes and tsunamis.
The “Icebergs Towers” is a power plant that promotes the potential of nuclear power while accepting its risks. It is an invitation to explore nuclear energy, to keep improving and discovering what lies beneath the surface.
