This project was to design a functional campfire stool with some extra element, be it functional or fashionable. I chose a guitar as the inspiration for my design, since I have played for nine years, and I thought the bridge and strings would create an interesting silhouette. My first step was to model one piece of the stool in Fusion360.

Next, I took the Fusion file to the ShopBot, our CNC cutting machine, and cut a single piece of the body out of MDF to test it, as well as to make sure that my spacers fit nicely into the design.

I then went on to cut ten pieces, each with four spacers. Note the four holes in the corners of the project: these will later be used to hold the threaded rod that keeps the project standing upright and functioning as a stool.

After cutting, sanding, and priming all ten pieces and forty spacers, I painted them all with a glossy, cherry-red spray paint. On the two outside pieces, I painted the details on with black and white to add contrast.

Finally, I laid all the pieces on top of one another and put the threaded rod through, adding washers and bolts to keep the stool nice and sturdy, even as it rocks and rolls.
