A Series of Contrasts - Still Life Studies
An Oil-Lantern, traditionally used in India as a source of light, is today a decorative, antique item that finds its place as decor. I was intrigued by its simple, yet useful, design - with a handle to carry it, and a closed glass container to let maximum light through while preventing the fire from causing harm. The authenticity and antiqueness of this lamp caught my attention.

It’s interesting to see the role of lamps in highlighting certain corners or just adding beauty and design to a room. This Lamp with a crystal-metal stand and textured lamp-shade reflects contemporary interior decor.
These two sources of light are contrasting in nature. One extremely modern while the other typically antique.
Whenever I see someone wearing heels such as this designer heel, I wonder whether it’s the grace of the person wearing it, or the grace of the footwear itself. My designer mind always tilts to the latter. Its shape, the material, and the texture are what give the heel its identity. This drawing is my attempt to capture the footwear and its sheer grace.

While the designer heel reflects grace, an athlete’s shoes reflects comfort and action. The unkempt sock coming out of the shoe reflects the sense of urgency of an athlete, and the bottle next to it a sign of convenience and sustenance. Often, I notice minor details in items and how they are kept, and think about the underlying reasons. This drawing of an athlete’s essentials is also an attempt to capture a scene from my father’s life, who’s a runner.

The heel and the shoe, while both are footwear, are never considered to be similar, since we perceive them to have different purposes.
