For this shot, I made a 3D model of the fence and textured in before applying a 3D motion track to the footage so that it will match the movement of the video. Then I added a fire particle followed by stock footages of flamethrower for the fireblast. And as upon reaching the ground, I created a 3D plane of the ground and textured in by using an exact ground texture of the place and added in rock shatter effect in Autodesk Maya to create exploding effect upon making a contact with the fire. Then after rendering out all the render passes such Ambient Occlusion, shadow and etc, I added in an motion blur to make it more realistic. Lastly I composited them and color grade evenly so that it blended well.
I used luma-key to keyed out the sky and added in a sky stock footage in the background. I tracked the stock footage with the original footage to match the movement. There is also some roaring thunder occuring in the background at some point, those are made in After effects lightning preset. I color graded them at the end for the original footage to match with the sky lighting.
The original clip is actually quite shaky but is still usable. I did a motion stabilizer so that I will able to do a 2d tracking on the hand movement because I wanted to added in fireball in his hand. The fireball were made by a mixture of 3D particle in Autodesk Maya and stock footages of flamethrower that were spherized in After effects. There is also contact lighting on the talent body and face to make it more realistic as the fireball is directly infront of him. And as the fireball flies forward, the wall at the side will also have a slight of contact lighting.
