A Heat Shield for the Most Important Ice on Earth
In spring of 2023 I was invited To MAKE AN ANIMaTED illustration for a special issue of The New Yorker dedicated to the climate concerns "Bottlenecks: Must-solve problems in the fight against climate change"
THE SUBJECT OF AN ARTICLE WAS A GROUP OF SCIentists searching for the ways to make the Arctic Ice more reflective in order to keep it from heating up and melting, WHICH WOULD CREATE A DOMINO EFFECT AS THE DARKER SURFACE OF THE WATER WOULD ABSORB THE HEAT MUCH FASTER, ACCELERATING THE TEMPERATUrES RISE
THEY CAME UP WITH a curious glass spheres technology BASED oN THE COMMON KnOWLEDGE QUALITY OF BRIGHTER SURFaCES HAViNG A BeTTER RESISTANcE TO tHE HEAT — read the full article HERE
I WANTED TO SHOW iN A SimPLE AND PLAYFUL WAY THE PHYSICAL PROCESSES THAT aRE UNDERLYING THE MECHANICS OF THIS IDEA, As WELL As TRANSLATE ThE CIRCULAR, INTERTWINED NATURE OF ALL THESE PHENOMENAS
here you can see some of the initial sketches illustrating the thought process
AND HERE'S THE DIGITAL SKETCH AND MOTION CONCEPT THAT WERE CHOSEN FOR THE PUBLICATION
