10 Days of Mardini
SideFx Houdini Daily Art Challenge

Last March, I decided to take on to SideFX's annual MARDINI art challenge. Each day presented a unique theme to elaborate on, prompting me to test both my technical and creative limits within a tight deadline. Below are my pieces from the 10 days I submitted my entry.

Day 12: Trees. A post-challenge refinement using the original setting. I integrated camera movements and environmental effects that I had originally envisioned but omitted due to time constraints:

For each task, establishing a solid and clear concept from the beginning was crucial to achieve the desired visual effect. Given the tight timeframe (I usually had between 6 and 10 hours out of the assigned 24), it would have been virtually impossible without this initial preparation, given the limited room for trial and error and visual exploration.

Within the context of this 3D challenge, I adopted two main approaches. The first involves using techniques I'm already well-versed in, thereby influencing the aesthetics and concept of the project from the outset. The second prioritizes the artistic and conceptual vision, even at the risk of venturing into less familiar technical territories. Both approaches have their merits. However, this second approach, while more challenging, provided me with the opportunity to deepen and expand my skills with the software.

Thank you for watching!
